   bolga baskets

Bolga baskets are woven from split, twisted and dyed strips of elephant grass. Coming from Africa in 1913 to the new world, elephant grass grows in dense clumps and also serves as a habitat for many birds.

The center basket has a square bottom and round top, and is known as the "Pito" or Funeral basket. Older women are usually responsible for the making of these baskets.

Tro Tro Trading Company sells a variety of baskets in different designs.
